AT +24

I guess 300 is my magic number.  Went to UrgentCare and have stress fractures in a couple bones in the right foot, so we are through hiking for the time being. Now I'm going Crappie fishing with my dad. Thanks everyone for all of the support and well wishes.  It has been a learning experience, and both Louis and I had a great time. We will definitely be back for more! Thanks again!

Lickskillet Hollow to Wapiti Shelter. Very nice day. Lots of rocks, hard on the ankles. Some great views.

AT +21 (269.4)

Bland to Lickskillet Hollow.  Easy hiking,  only rained about an hour today.

AT +20 (ZERO)

Stayed in Bland to rest the hip and knee. Feels much better.  Found out Recon fell crossing the same creek I did and got a spiral fracture of his right tibia.  Sucks to go out like that.

AT +19 (255.3)

Chestnut Knob Shelter to Bland VA. Long wet hike, need some dry clothes and need to dry out the sleeping bags. In to town to pick up resupply too.

AT +18 (232.6)

Crawfish Valley to Chestnut Knob Shelter.  Rained sideways all day. Cold and windy. Had to wait a few minutes for a mamma bear and cub to let us use the trail.

AT +17 (215.3)

USFS644 to Crawfish Valley. Muddy and slick as hell. Took a fall crossing a creek and bruised my hip and knee. Slow going.

AT +16 (204.6)

Marion VA to USFS644. Long day in the rain.  It's wearing us down. Sucks being wet all the time.

AT +14 (173.7 miles)

White Top Mtn to Old Orchard Shelter. Over Mt Rodgers highest mountain in VA. Saw some wild ponies when we crossed the Grayson Highlands.  Rained all day and most of the night. Hard to get warm when everything is wet. Shitty night.

AT +13 (156.3 miles)

Saunders Shelter to White Top Mountain which is Virginia's 2nd highest peak. Rained all day and all night. Not a dry sock in the bag!

AT +12 (141.8 miles)

Damascus to Saunders Shelter. Met Four & Five both of which were hilarious.  Great stories about brown blazing and chicken houses.

AT +11 (132.3 miles)

Hiked from Double Springs Shelter to Damascus VA. Stayed at the Woodchuck Hostel. Met Poppins, Stoat, Silent Bob & Woodchuck, which were great company and had eggs and blueberry waffles for breakfast.

AT +10 (113.6 miles)

AT +9 (109.8 miles)

Carter Gap to Winding Stair Gap. Rained all day, soaked and ready to  get warm and eat real  food. Into Franklin NC. Gonna jump ahead to Hampton TN so we can make the Shenandoah Valley by the end of vacation.

AT +8 (93.9 miles)

Bly Gap to Carter Gap Shelter.  A good day, not much rain.  These mountains aren't any Joke and not much level trail.  Either up or down and its kicking my ass.

AT +7 (78.6 miles)

Dicks Creek Gap to Bly Gap. Crossed in to NC. Still sore from the 17 miles the day before.

AT +2 (17.2 miles)

Up and down these mountains is kicking my ass. Left Hawk mountain early, staying at Gooch Gap tonight and into Suches  tomorrow to mail some stuff home. Planning on cutting 10 lbs. Then to Jarrads Gap so we can make it up and over Blood Mtn in a day.

Gotta pick up the pace. Slow going for most of the first week

AT +1 (8.1 miles)

Had a great night in Delonegha.  Went to the Crimson Moon for open mic night. Great artist good atmosphere. Got a late start because the post office didn't open til 0830 and the it took 1 1/2 hrs to get to the trail head. It rained all day so we were soaked from head to toe. Made it to Hawk Mtn. Had threat of hail and thunderstorm so we stopped early. I have aches and pains all over.

AT -20. A lot of planning and prep complete. I am packing my drop boxes this weekend with all of my food and other supplies that I think I will need for a 1 April start date. Louis has decided to hike with me. I am looking forward to having company. He needs a trail name but I'll give it a few days and see what fits him best.

Scouts Out!
